what is Ibd?
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a term used for two conditions that are known to cause chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract:
Causes chronic inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract.1
Causes chronic inflammation of the large intestine, in which the lining becomes inflamed and develops tiny open sores, or ulcers.2
What causes IBD?
No one knows the exact cause of IBD, but we do know that the immune system responds incorrectly to environmental triggers, which causes inflammation. People with family histories of IBD are more likely to develop it, but no direct genetic link has been found.
IBD can come
with challenges, inside and out-
like when people who don't understand IBD think your flare is "just" a tummy ache. They don't realize that flares are when the symptoms reappear or get worse, and you may experience:4
Frequent and/or urgent bowel movements
Lack of appetite
